Greater Victoria Acting Together (GVAT) (www.gvat.ca) is a collation of 25 faith and front-line service organizations, unions, and student societies representing over 100, 000 members in the Greater Victoria area. GVAT brings community members together to work on issues of common concern.

The diocese is a member of GVAT and is proud to be hosting a Housing Affordability Assembly on Sunday, October 2 from 7-8:30pm at Christ Church Cathedral and online. This will be an exciting opportunity for us to join with other faith communities, as well as the Mustard Seed, Our Place, and local labour organizations, to ask mayoral candidates from across the region to commit to working with us to address the housing crisis in our region. We know that the housing crisis is real and that we need all the municipalities in our region to buy and put aside land for social housing in an effort to prioritize housing the unhoused.

Municipalities cannot do this alone, and while they certainly need the support of other levels of government, they also need of all of us: the citizens of this part of the world. We all need to work together to assist our neighbours-in-need and to ensure that all people have dignified and safe housing.

All are invited to the Cathedral on Sunday, October 2nd. Help us fill the Cathedral to show our civic leaders that we are looking for real action and a commitment to create affordable housing in our communities.
