Pastor's Message. We'll soon welcome our new verger. Daniel Brown's expanding the St. Matthias outreach

Pastor's Message

Pastor's Message

Beloved people of God:

Summer is a lovely time to slow down and enjoy God’s creation in our beautiful island where we are so privileged to live. A reminder that we gather in the chapel for Celtic Liturgy and sharing of the Gospel for the coming Sunday on Thursdays at 10.am, so if you appreciate praying with a smaller group, please join us. A reminder too that the labyrinth is a special feature in our grounds and a beautiful way to help us to slow down to a ‘summer pace’

Not everyone thinks outside worship is a good idea, so I’ll be asking you all on Sunday how you feel about it. So, this week, we will celebrate inside the church as usual, pending further discussion.

During these summer weeks I am aways available for conversation with any of you, just let me know and I’ll be glad to make an appointment with you.  Please know too that if you are unable to come to Sunday worship, I am happy to bring communion to you and pray with you if you request it.

Abundant blessings

Rev. Colleen

We'll soon welcome our new verger

We'll soon welcome our new verger

Hannah Clow will be joining the St. Matthias team

Recently, Brenna Emile let Rev. Colleen know that she needed to end her contract for cleaning at St. Matthias for health reasons.  We are sorry to have this relationship end, but hope that Brenna will enjoy good healing.  We have managed to find a new verger, Hannah Clow, who will be taking on the contract for cleaning in the next few days.

Typically, the verger does their "magic" at times when few of us are around, so we trust you'll simply appreciate the presence of good work.  We'll hope to post a photo of Hannah for the newsletter and possibly in the entrance to the hall.

Every new member of the St. Matthias team needs a bit of time to find their way around, so it's nice to have this change during the summer when things are less busy.  However, as always, we rely on the courtesy and kindness of the St. Matthias folk during this transitional time.

Organ Steward at the Pemberton Memorial Chapel, Royal Jubilee Hospital

This note is a "placeholder" for an expanded version of Daniel's recent announcement at church.  Daniel has been asked by the Royal Canadian College of Organists, Victoria Centre, to be the organ steward at the Pemberton Memorial Chapel located at the Royal Jubilee Hospital.

Those of us who heard Daniel share this good news will recall that he framed this honour not as recognition of his talent, but as an opportunity for St. Matthias to expand our outreach to the community.

We'll look forward to hearing more in Daniel's own words, but meanwhile, "celebrate, celebrate!"
