This Week at St. Matthias"Water is life, sanitation is dignity" “Water is everywhere around us and in us, tangible as sweat, visible as the high seas, invisible as the envelope of earth’s life-protecting atmosphere, and essential as blood. Water provides the matrix of our conception and our embryonic pre-natal environment. Breaking waters bring us to birth and water is the final elemental comfort we may ask for in dying. In the environment water has become a non-renewable resource because of its present rate of consumption, pollution and exploitation. Should it surprise us then that water has a central place in the story of God’s purposes for creation?” For the third Sunday of the Season of Creation we worship the blessing of water. The biblical passages this week speak to the sacredness of water, and the curse of its scarcity. Come join us for worship Sunday at 10am. The image above is a beautiful watery image, a linocut by local artist Mary Anne Molcan. It is currently displayed in the Chapel Gallery exhibit HUMAN/NATURE which opens Friday evening from 6-8pm with artists talks at 6:30pm. All are welcome. A great opportunity to enjoy art and learn about the spiritual foundations of its creation from the artists themselves. Nicky Rendell is also leading a meditative workshop on the artwork of Human/Nature next Wednesday at 1pm. More details below. This week we pay tribute to the life of Queen Elizabeth II. See below for details on in-person and livestreamed memorial services. We hold this loss in our prayers this week. |
