Our Journey Through LentRector's Desk, February 2026 “Create in me a clean heart O God and renew a right spirit within me” Psalm 51: 10 Beloved people of God: This week we are invited into the wilderness to face our limitations and to step back from the distractions that limit our relationship with God. It is a time to simplify our lives, to re-calibrate, in order to encounter the God who is always present. During these forty days of Lent, we allow God to work in our hearts and in our lives, to renew a right spirit within us as we prepare for the great feast of Easter. We have many concerns, both personal and global, and there is much to be disturbed about in the world. Lent reminds us, and gives us the opportunity, to put our faith once again in Jesus Christ who has promised to be with us in all circumstances. Whatever we are dealing with, we know that God became a human being in order to share our humanity, whatever that involves. We never struggle alone. I pray for each one of you, individually and collectively as we make this Lenten journey together. Blessings Rev. Colleen |

Vestry - Annual General Meeting Sunday, February 22ndBring Your Own Coffee /Tea Mug! Dear friends, it's that wonderful time of the year ... we have the opportunity to rejoice in our shared commitment to the ongoing work of Christmas: to show our love for God and our neighbour. This congregation is rich in the generous spirit of its people. As you may know, the Vestry (Annual Meeting of parishioners) is our formal opportunity to review our results from the past year, to agree on our formal lay leadership for the coming year, and to approve our general roadmap for the coming year.
Each area of ministry has submitted its report, including the financial reports prepared under the supervision of our Treasurer. If you're relatively new to St. Matthias, please know that our meetings are quick, "painless," and congenial.
We'll meet after our 10 am worship, in the hall, with coffee and tea on offer (thanks to the Hospitality Team!!). We ask that each of you brings your own coffee/tea mug in order to make the clean-up simple and quick. |

Lenten outreach donationsSocks, underwear, food for St. John the Divine food bank
During Advent, our loving community donated several "loads" of new socks: so much generosity that Reverend Colleen could hardly carry them! We don't want her to "struggle," but we'd be so happy if we could match or even surpass our outreach efforts for Lent. Our Place maintains a list of urgently needed items to support its broad family. New socks remain in urgent need, but we also note the need for new underwear. And, may we gently remind you, the foodbank at St. John the Divine always needs the gifts we put in the shopping basket at the church entrance. Rumour has it that the budget being proposed for your consideration for the coming year also includes provision for supporting more lunches at Our Place. We are so lucky to be able to help. So, please, in your errand-running, buy some new socks or underwear or groceries to contribute. For more information, follow this link to the Our Place website. And, if you have further questions, call or email them! They're delighted to answer your questions. https://www.ourplacesociety.com/in-kind-donations/#toggle-id-1 |
Here a click, there a click ...Your opportunity to re-enjoy Reverend Colleen's sermons https://www.stmatthiasvictoria.ca/blog/glimpses-of-glory
We are so lucky to enjoy gifted and inspired sermons during our worship time. You may have missed a particular insight, or have wanted to enjoy the sermon again or ... perhaps you've been unable to be present in person. Never fear: we are working to ensure that we post a "draft" of the sermons we hear on the website. The link above takes you to the February 15th sermon that Rev. Colleen preached, but it also gives you a headstart to the other sermons on the website. Enjoy. Learn. Give thanks for the blessings we have received. |
