This Sunday is World Food Day, and we are all aware that there many in the world and in our own community here is Victoria who do not have access to good, healthy food.  Research has shown that the planet can produce enough food to feed everyone but we fall very short in terms of production and distribution. While all of us try to “do our bit” to contribute to a solution to this problem, sometimes our efforts can seem like a drop in the ocean, making little difference to the overarching problem. In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells a parable about a persistent woman who wouldn’t give up in her fight for justice. We can take inspiration from this story and from Jesus’ instruction to “pray constantly”. We should not underestimate the power of prayer as we strive, each in our own way for justice. Prayer changes things. It changes us and empowers us to change the world. Many injustices of the past no longer exist because people of faith prayed and were relentless in working for justice. We can do the same with the challenges that confront us in our own time.

Hymns of Thanksgiving is an annual sing along musical evening hosted by Organist Daniel Brown. Friday October 14th at 7pm in St. Matthias Anglican Church, 600 Richmond Rd (at Richardson).  

We will be singing songs and hymns that celebrate and highlight this season of thanksgiving! Entry by donation for The Mustard Seed Food Bank of Victoria. Everyone is welcome to raise their voice in Thanksgiving and help feed those in need by donations on behalf our most vulnerable neighbours.

Every Wednesday at 11:15 am at Multifaith, is Abraham's Table! What is Abraham's Table you ask?  

Abraham’s Table is a weekly program dedicated to providing a space to discuss Islam, Judaism and Christianity. Each week, a different topic will be explored, led by one leader within that religion. Each session begins with an informal presentation and is followed by a period of discussion.  

This is a drop in program and there is no need to register.

The Cornerstone Speaker Series presents Issues of Violence Against Women and Children. 

The topic of this session on Tuesday, October 25th, will be Standing Up Against Violence: An Indigenous-Led Discussion. The presenter will be Kathryn Lacerte of the Moose Hide Campaign.

The Moose Hide Campaign is a grassroots movement to incite ongoing commitments and actions of Indigenous and non-Indigenous men and boys to stand up against violence towards women and children.  Inspired by the land, the love between a father and his daughter, and the national crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, the Moose Hide Campaign creates awareness and public engagement for transformation and healing.

The session starts at 7 pm and will include time for audience discussion and questions.

 Festival of the Dead at Christ Church Cathedral, Victoria

The Festival of the Dead opens with a screening of the 1925 silent film The Phantom of the Opera. Directed by Rupert Julian and starring Lon Chaney, the film is an early classic of the horror genre. The internationally acclaimed organ virtuoso David Briggs, currently the Artist in Residence for New York City’s Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, will provide a live, improvised accompaniment on Christ Church Cathedral’s magnificent Wolff organ. The Passion of Joan of Arc  Tuesday, November 1, 7.30pm   

Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1928 film The Passion of Joan of Arc, starring Maria Falconetti, is a powerful, moving work, and one of the greatest accomplishments ever put on film. Victoria’s Vox Humana Chamber Choir, under the baton of their new conductor David Stratkauskas, will accompany this silent masterpiece with Richard Einhorn’s score Voices of Light.
