Black History Online Worship Servicecelebrating Black presence in the Anglican Church of Canada - Sunday, February 27, 2022 Join the service live on YouTubeFebruary is Black History month in Canada. The Anglican Church of Canada has a rich history with Black people that settled in communities across our country from all over the world; some came as slaves, others as immigrants. The story of Black history in Canada is our history as a church. For this reason, dioceses will be finding ways to celebrate the contributions of Black Anglicans throughout the month. This annual celebration of the Black heritage of our church began in the diocese of Toronto, 26 years ago and was inspired by the late Dr Romney Moseley, whose life and witness will be remember this year, the 30th anniversary of his death. Coffee and Conversation'Wearing God' by Lauren F Winner - Thursday, March 3, 2022 Coffee and Conversations! Thursdays 9-945am in the Chapel. Starting on March 3rd we are going to have time to catch up with one another and share conversations about the many images of God in scripture through the lens of a thought-provoking book by Lauren F Winner. A few copies of the book have been ordered and will be available for purchase at the Church office next week for $22. "There are hundreds of metaphors for God, but the church only uses a few familiar images: creator, judge, saviour, father. In Wearing God, Lauren Winner gathers a number of lesser-known tropes, reflecting on how they work biblically and culturally, and reveals how they can deepen our spiritual lives. Exploring the notion of God as clothing, Winner reflects on how we are “clothed with Christ” or how “God fits us like a garment.” She then analyzes how clothing functions culturally to shape our ideals and identify our community, and ruminates on how this new metaphor can function to create new possibilities for our lives. For each biblical metaphor—God as the vine/vintner who animates life; the lactation consultant; and the comedian, showing us our follies, for example—Winner surveys the historical, literary, and cultural landscapes in order to revive and heal our souls." Coffee time will be followed by Eucharist and a discussion of our Sunday readings at 10 am. Feel free to come to one or both! Because Lent lasts for forty days it recalls Christ’s fasting during temptation in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). To learn more about the Church calendar, click here. How long is Lent, exactly? For more infomation visit: http://stmatthiasvictoria.ca/events/liturgical-season-of-lent/2022-03-02
