 Festival of the Dead at Christ Church Cathedral, Victoria

The Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) is presenting the following two concerts at Christ Church Cathedral.

The Phantom of the Opera  Saturday, October 29, 7.30pm.   

The Festival of the Dead opens with a screening of the 1925 silent film The Phantom of the Opera. Directed by Rupert Julian and starring Lon Chaney, the film is an early classic of the horror genre. The internationally acclaimed organ virtuoso David Briggs, currently the Artist in Residence for New York City’s Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, will provide a live, improvised accompaniment on Christ Church Cathedral’s magnificent Wolff organ. The Passion of Joan of Arc  Tuesday, November 1, 7.30pm   

Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1928 film The Passion of Joan of Arc, starring Maria Falconetti, is a powerful, moving work, and one of the greatest accomplishments ever put on film. Victoria’s Vox Humana Chamber Choir, under the baton of their new conductor David Stratkauskas, will accompany this silent masterpiece with Richard Einhorn’s score Voices of Light.
