Marilyn joined St. Matthias in 2012 and was invited to serve as secretary of Parish Council that December. She became a member of Parish Council in 2013 and is honoured to serve as People’s Warden as February 2019. Being new to Victoria, she found the church to be an abundant source of friendship and activities. She enjoys the camaraderie of the choir and volunteers with many of the parish programs.
Active with the Buildings and Grounds committee, she tends the extensive gardens around the church and in front of the hall.
She organizes Attic Treasures, a sale in the church on the fourth Saturday of each month, run in conjunction with community recycling on the parking, in support of Threshold Housing. She is also on the Board of Rogers Court Society, which oversees the 24 low-income seniors housing.
Marilyn had an eclectic career which took her to many places abroad, as well as across Canada. Her last assignment with the federal government was as Trade Commissioner for Vancouver Island brought her to Victoria. She and her husband have retired and live in James Bay. She continues to enjoy travel and visits her children and grandchildren in Winnipeg, Montreal, and Ottawa.
